ABSTRACT

When crises occur, the society plays significant roles, such as assisting victims, helping vulnerable groups, sharing information, allocating resources etc. However, for the response to crises to succeed, society, authorities and emergency services should align their efforts and needs in a coordinated way. To identify this alignment, we designed an internet-based survey asking authorities, emergency services, and volunteer organizations about the needs and expectations they have from the society to better handle crises. The questionnaire is divided into two main sections: the first section covers the responders’ risk awareness, and the second gathers the needs they have from society in the following items: social norms and sense of communality, coping skills, resources to face a crisis, perception of trust, perception of responsibility, crisis knowledge, crisis communication, communication channels, information sharing and preparedness. The survey was launched in 7 European countries and this paper presents the results collected in Spain. The answers show that in general there is a high consensus in the analysed items, though the distribution shows that authorities differ the most from the other responder profile groups. The results show that the responders are more aware of pandemics followed by extreme weather related events. We think this is because of the huge impact that is creating the current coronavirus pandemic. © ESREL 2021. Published by Research Publishing, Singapore.

ABSTRACT

The global pandemic, caused by the spread of COVID-19, has altered the way people go shopping. In light of this, Social Media channels are an important means of sharing information about goods and services, and different kinds of brands. Since these channels are of considerable market significance, the authors of this paper decided to describe the results of a survey on how to use Social Media to improve customer relationship management processes in 31 companies. The focus was on digital marketing for micro and small businesses. In addition, an in-depth analysis was conducted of four companies, to determine the challenges and strategies in social customer relationship management adopted by micro and small businesses. The results show that this is still a new policy for micro and small companies, but has a great potential to boost sales, enhance customer loyalty and increase brand awareness. The lessons learned can assist policymakers in taking more suitable measures for strengthening this market sector. © 2022, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 outbreak has changed the way organizations work. Now employees can work remotely from anywhere and it is predicted to stay that way even after the pandemic has been overcome. Problems arise regarding the effective media for collaboration and knowledge sharing, as much as possible without losing employee engagement. Enterprise social media (ESM) offers a solution for that problem, as it is a social media that implement only for internal use and is open to all organization members. To avoid misleading implementation, organizations must understand in advance what factors affect successful ESM implementation, and also what platforms are widely used out there. This study aims to identify determinants and platforms used in the implementation of ESM in organizations. To support future research, this study also tries to identify what future works are suggested by researchers. The methodology applied in this systematic literature review uses the Kitchenham approach, with an exploration of related research published in five database sources during 2016-2021. From the data extraction of 60 final article selection results, it is found that the most mentioned determinant is clearly defined rules, manager support, fit with actual business needs, and individual motivation. For ESM platforms, Yammer is the platform that is widely used out there. Aside from expanding the research scope and adding variables, many researchers suggested carrying out longitudinal studies and multiple method data collections for future works. Overview of ESM research is also discussed.

ABSTRACT

Social media is a source of big data. Media like Twitter and Facebook has been used for collecting and analyzing user data for different purposes. The data can be used to analyze people opinions towards certain topics and incidents by applying sentiment analysis and then certain useful insights can be drawn from the analyzed data. During the current time of Covid-19, people have been sharing information regarding Covid-19 statistics, vaccines, and discussing the effects of the vaccine concerning public health. The purpose of this study is to analyze tweet data regarding the Covid-19 vaccine by applying sentiment analysis and predicting the impact of the vaccine on public health. Also, the tweets are analyzed for hidden topics by applying Topic Modelling using Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) and Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA). The source of data for this study is Twitter API. The coding and data analysis is done using Python programming language in the Spyder (Scientific Python Development Environment) that is an integrated development environment for scientific programming, testing, and data analysis. The results of the study indicate a greater positive sentiment reflecting a healthy public discussion about the Covid-19 vaccine, information, awareness, and public acceptance. With these results, a positive impact of the Covid-19 vaccine on public health is predicted. The results of topic modeling discovered 10 hidden topics from the tweet dataset. © 2022. ABSTRACT

Globalization has given rise to digital accounting with new ways of sharing information, particularly digitalization of the profession. The teaching of accounting must go along with technological changes in preparing students for the challenges of 4.0 environments. The new coronavirus pandemic in 2020 forced, among others, companies and universities to migrate their working and teaching methods to the remote format. As a result, teachers and students had to adapt to a new routine for carrying out their tasks, previously in person. Knowing how to use technology in favor of more efficient and effective teaching was one of the biggest challenges that the teachers faced during this period of suspension of face-to-face classes. Thus, the present study aims to evaluate how the teachers of the accounting course at the UTFPR in Brazil and at ISCAP in Portugal perceive the use of information technology in the process of education at distance (EaD) during the period of the new coronavirus pandemic and in the future. The study reveals the concern of teaching with digital technologies regarding the effectiveness of this model in the teaching and learning process. The methodology used was quantitative and qualitative, through the case study and the survey carried out in both higher education institutions. Thus, it is possible to state that the study highlighted the importance of technological resources for remote teaching, as well as the difficulty still existing in the management of these tools, and some limitations of interaction existing in non-presential relationships. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: Ever since COVID-19 was declared as a global pandemic, there has been a prevalence of misinformation circulating online on social media platforms. In order to better tackle COVID-19 it is important to determine how the general population perceive the sharing of medical information on social media platforms. Based on this, the aim of the study is to analyse the perception of Saudi Arabian Health Care Workers' (HCWs) and Non-Health Care Workers' (NHCWs) regarding the sharing and resharing of medical information, whether true or false, on social media platforms regarding COVID-19. METHODS: To achieve the aim of this study, the general objective is to identify the most commonly used Social Media Platforms, determine the proportion of the Saudi Arabian population who have participated in recirculating information in those social media platforms, and to analyse their perception of medical information sharing in social media platforms. This study was conducted using a quantitative research methodology. The measurement tool used for this study was an online survey conducted using Google Survey. A 10-item questionnaire was adopted and translated to Arabic to conduct the survey. RESULTS: The total number of responses for the study were N=1249. The findings of the study indicate that Saudi Arabian general population understand the prevalence of unverified information, but are accepting of the practice of sharing information without evidence on social media platforms, with the belief that such information does not cause actual harm to the general public, but instead would be beneficial. WhatsApp was the most preferred social media platform for receiving and sharing information among participants, followed by Twitter and Snapchat. CONCLUSION: The findings of this study indicate that the Saudi Arabian population are more wary than the global general population regarding misinformation online on social media platforms regarding COVID-19.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: The fast and shocking onset of the crisis caused by the COVID-19 virus created the need for a complete crisis management of healthcare facilities to manage the current stage of the crisis. The purpose of our research is to examine the relations between the competences of crisis management in healthcare facilities and the performance of employees, measured during the acute stage of the crisis by their feeling of satisfaction, safety and creation of conditions for work, whereby we assume that these variables are mutually interlinked by the sharing of information, teamwork and cognitive diversity of the work teams. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A questionnaire survey was created and used based on a sample of 216 mid-level managers of health care facilities in Slovakia, which took place during the first month after the outbreak of the crisis (during the month of March/April 2020). The Baron and Kenny mediator model has been used for research purposes and the Freedman-Schatzkin test has been used to test the mediator effect. Regression analysis has been used to verify the hypotheses. The control variables were the size of the healthcare facility based on the number of employees, gender and age of the manager, his position in the management hierarchy and the duration of practice in a management position. The ANOVA analysis of variance was used to analyze multiple dependencies. The level of significance was 5%. The research sample consisted of 216 managers at different types of healthcare facilities. RESULTS: The hypothesis for the dependency between the crisis competences of management and performance of teams during the acute stage of the crisis, facilitated by sharing information, teamwork and cognitive diversity of crisis management was confirmed. It is a multilateral incomplete mediation, where almost two thirds of the total effect are facilitated by mediators, of which the sharing of information has the greatest effect (35%). CONCLUSION: Based on our mediation model, healthcare facilities, which strive to implement crisis management during the acute stage of the crisis, should place emphasis especially on reliable background information and the fast sharing of information, supporting the performance of healthcare teams. The strategies for achieving these goals should also include education focused on the development of managerial competences.

ABSTRACT

Since October 2018, a longitudinal communication curriculum for medical students has been implemented at Witten/Herdecke University. In the summer semester 2020, the concept for the 4th preclinical semester included a practical training on "sharing information", which consisted of three two-hour face-to-face sessions with simulated patients (SP). Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, teaching was changed to an inverted classroom concept combining asynchronous and synchronous teaching. The students worked at the beginning of the semester on an e-learning module of the learning platform docCom.deutsch on the topic "sharing information" using reflection and processing tasks. In two digital sessions, the students then were able to practice discharge interviews and discussions about risk communication illustrated by the example of screening methods for cancer prevention. In the first zoom session, students practiced in role-plays among themselves. In the second zoom session, they practiced with SP. The evaluation results revealed that 76% of the responding students considered working with the e-learning module as a good preparation for the interviews. According to the evaluation results, satisfaction with the Zoom meeting including SP contact was slightly higher than those with role-plays among themselves. Although the group atmosphere was rated by all responding students as conducive to learning, almost half of them confirmed that using Zoom significantly impaired the atmosphere (47%). In retrospect, the conversion of the communication training to a digital format worked better than expected from both the perspective of teachers and students. The students explicitly appreciated working with SP. From the teachers' perspective, some specific aspects of successful communication were difficult to reflect on, e.g. non-verbal communication. The use of e-learning as a preparation for practical exercises has proven successful and will be continued in the future.
